Causes I support ...

Fight for the Cure -- March 7, 2009

I fundamentally believe that giving to your community through time or financially (if your finances permit) is a duty, not an option, of responsible and engaged citizenship.  I am a proud supporter of the following organizations and encourage you to consider supporting them as well.

One in three people in the Ottawa area will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.  On average, 16 people in Ottawa are diagnosed each and every day with cancer.

Globally, cancer is the world's number one cause of death -- according to the WHO -- accounting for 13% of worldwide mortality.  In fact, it now kills more people each year than AIDS, Malaria and TB combined.

But there is great hope.  Over 54% of all adults diagnosed with cancer now survive and thrive and over 77% of all children diagnosed with this disease will beat it and go on to reach their full potential.

By giving to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (see link below) foundation, you can help build capacity, sustain excellence and accelerate discovery.

One in two people in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario will use the services of the Ottawa Hospital this year.  By setting up an endowment agreement with the hospital, your funds will be matched by the Foundation.

The United Way helps tens of millions of people each year all across North America.  The Ottawa area United Way helps individuals and families from all walks of life and income groups ... by donating, you truly invest in hope for the future.  Contact the United Way about Leadership Giving and for as little as $83.33 per month (less than a Starbucks latte a day) you can make a difference in so many lives.

No matter how difficult our lives may get, we must always be mindful that we live in one of the world's richest countries.  Freedom from opression and war, good schools and safe drinking water are just three of the countless blessings we take for granted every day here in Canada.  Why not consider giving a child half way around the world a chance at a better life ... for a little as a dollar a day you can.

Each month, 3,000 families turn to the Youth Services Bureau for help.  Whether the issue is finding employment, dealing with substance abuse, mental health challenges ... just to name a few.  For over 50 years the YSB has helped change young lives, their familes and our community for the better.  The YSB Charitable Foundation needs your help, click on the link below to find out more.
